An Anti-Inflammatory Diet Could Be the Ticket to Feeling Better

When I say the word "inflammation," it's likely to evoke thoughts of painful joints and muscles, swelling, and a loss of mobility. But did you know that recent research shows that chronic inflammation in your body can lead to serious diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, some cancers, and Alzheimer's disease, to name just a few?

The amount of inflammation in your body varies and is dependent on a number of factors - including your activity level, the amount of sleep you get, the degree of stress in your life, and even the foods you eat. What you have to realize is that these factors are cumulative - meaning they build up over time. And the more that any or all of these factors get out of whack, the risk for disease increases.

Early in life, these levels can be so low that you might not even be aware that you have any inflammation in your body. That's because our bodies do a fairly decent job of controlling the inflammation - at least for a while. Then one day you wake up and you're in your 40s and something is just not right. That's when the fear begins to set in, and you think to yourself: What did I do wrong? or What can I do now to help myself?

The first step is to get your C-reactive protein (CRP) levels tested. C-reactive protein is produced by the liver, and the level of CRP rises when there is systemic inflammation in the body. Ask your doctor about this (you may have to demand to have the test done). All it requires is a blood sample that will be evaluated by your doctor. And because diet can play a large role in how much or how little inflammation you have, you may want these levels looked at by a registered dietician who can help you formulate an appropriate eating plan.

If you have pain due to inflammation, you may choose to take the traditional medical path, which includes non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), steroids, and even joint-replacement surgery in extreme cases. The good news is that there are natural ways to fight inflammation without the undesirable side-effects that often result from the treatments listed above.

What You Eat Makes All The Difference

The food we eat is a critical piece of the puzzle when it comes to controlling inflammation. The typical American diet consists of too much fat, tons of sugar, loads of red meat, and a frightening amount of processed foods - all of which are likely to increase inflammation and contribute to obesity, which itself is can cause inflammation. By switching to an anti-inflammatory diet plan consisting of healthy whole foods, you can actually decrease inflammation and ease the pain and discomfort associated with it.

The first step is to avoid processed foods, foods high in sugar, and junk food whenever possible. Instead, choose fresh whole foods, especially anti-inflammatory varieties such as lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables. But choose carefully. Many vegetables and pre-packaged "health" foods can actually work against you. Use this handy list of the best and worst foods for controlling inflammation:

Anti-inflammatory foods:

  • Atlantic Salmon (wild)
  • Fresh whole fruits, vegetables
  • Bright multi-colored vegetables
  • Green tea
  • Water
  • Olive oil
  • Lean poultry
  • Nuts, legumes and seeds
  • Dark green leafy vegetables
  • Old fashioned oatmeal
  • Spices, especially Turmeric and Ginger

Inflammatory foods:

  • Sugar, from any source
  • Processed foods
  • French Fries
  • Fast Foods
  • White bread
  • Pasta
  • Ice Cream
  • Cheddar Cheeses
  • Snack Foods
  • Oils such as vegetable and corn
  • Soda, caffeine and alcohol


In addition to these dietary changes it is also recommended that you:

  • Maintain a healthy weight - There is no question that eating healthy is not easy nowadays, whether you're at home or at a restaurant. But at the very least, you must try to decrease your intake of sugars and hydrogenated oils and increase your daily intake of fiber. Ideally, you should be consuming 35 grams of fiber (that is a ton of fiber, but it's worth shooting for).

  • Get better sleep - 7 to 9 hours of sleep is a must for optimal health; getting a good night's sleep is key to controlling systemic inflammation.

  • Relax more often to lower stress levels - Find time for yourself throughout the day to focus on your breathing and clear the clutter from your mind; learn to stay focused on the most important tasks in your life.

  • Exercise on a regular basis - People always ask me: What's the best exercise to do? I always tell them: Do something you like to do and, if your body can tolerate it, aim for 15-20 minutes three times a week.

  • Demand to have you CRP levels tested - This simple blood test is the best indicator of the amount of systemic inflammation in your body. Have the levels evaluated by a certified health care provider who can suggest the most appropriate action.

Things You Can Do with BOUNCE

This is incredible!
The US Postal service sent out a message to all letter carriers to put a sheet of Bounce in their uniform pockets to keep yellow-jackets away.

Use them all the time when playing baseball and soccer. I use it when I am working outside. It really works. The yellow jackets just veer around you.

  1. Prevent thread from tangling. Run a threaded needle through a Sheet of Bounce before beginning to sew.

  1. Clean baked-on foods from a cooking pan. Put a sheet in a pan, fill with water, let sit overnight, and sponge clean. The anti-static agent apparently weakens the bond between the food and the pan.

  1. Eliminate odors in wastebaskets. Place a sheet of Bounce at the bottom of the wastebasket.

  1. Collect cat hair. Rubbing the area with a sheet of Bounce will magnetically attract all the loose hairs.

  1. Eliminate static electricity from Venetian blinds. Wipe the blinds with a sheet of Bounce to prevent dust from resettling.

  1. Wipe up sawdust from drilling or sand papering. A used sheet of Bounce will collect sawdust like a tack cloth.

  1. Eliminate odors in dirty laundry. Place an individual sheet of Bounce at the bottom of a laundry bag or hamper.

  1. Deodorize shoes or sneakers Place a sheet of Bounce in your shoes or sneakers overnight.

All Drugs are Dangerous; Foods and Supplements are Safe

"Drugs are approved by the FDA today, distributed, then found unsafe tomorrow and withdrawn, only to be replaced with new wonder drugs that are subsequently taken off the market as health hazards. If drugs were safe and effective, would we need the $1.5 billion of mindless, hard-sell advertising every month to goad us into taking them and giving them to our children?"

It does not get more blatant than this, yet millions continue to trust such governmental agencies. If one needs clear cut proof of brainwashing here it is again... Drugs, Not Foods, Are Toxic

"Steps are necessary to ensure that the existence of dietary supplements on the market does not act as a disincentive for drug development."

The Food and Drug Administration is again spending millions of tax dollars in its yearly attempt to increase drug sales by restricting the distribution of dietary supplements. These actions are contrary to the public interest.

FDA Commissioner David Kessler recently rationalized his efforts by alleging, "For every one of these products that has some value, there are thousands that are worthless." This is unsupportable. In fact, his charges are much more appropriate when applied to pharmaceutical drugs rather than to foods.

On 15 percent of the drugs on the market have been subjected to controlled testing, according to the United States Department of Technological Assessment. In fact, 85 percent of the drugs Americans take are unproven or have actually been proven ineffective!

Are these thousands of questionable drugs even safe? The prestigious Yale-New Haven hospital has published their conclusions that pharmaceuticals, properly prescribed and properly taken, account for 100,000 deaths each year in this country alone. Tens of millions more Americans are made sick or fail to seek appropriate health care every year because of chronic, ongoing drug use "taken as directed." One million are hospitalized annually solely as a result of reactions to prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines. The cost in dollars and human suffering staggers the imagination. But the FDA wants to limit peoples' access to food supplements.

These drug statistics are not acceptable. They represent an indictment of the FDA and the pharmaceutical industry. If an automobile driver had a safety record like this, responsible authorities would make certain that his license was revoked before sundown and would probably jail the culprit as well. But the FDA ignores the drug disaster and wants to restrict the distribution of food supplements.

So the cycle continues. Drugs are approved by the FDA today, distributed, then found unsafe tomorrow and withdrawn, only to be replaced with new wonder drugs that are subsequently taken off the market as health hazards. If drugs were safe and effective, would we need the $1.5 billion of mindless, hard-sell advertising every month to goad us into taking them and giving them to our children?
In contrast, with few exceptions and very little advertising, food supplements have enjoyed great safety and increasing demand for decades.

How safe are these food substances? Vitamin A is often pointed to as one of the more toxic dietary supplements. Yet according to the Merck manual, vitamin A has had no fatalities associated with its use of abuse. This includes accidental ingestion of millions at one sitting and weeks of megadosages given to infants.

The simple, incontrovertible fact is this: All drugs are dangerous; foods and supplements are safe. Anyone with a paper and pencil can quickly figure out for themselves that pharmaceuticals will sicken and kill more Americans in the next seven days than "health foods" have in the past 10 years. Drugs need to be controlled much more strictly and distributed more sparingly than they are now. Supplements should be regulated for sanitation like any other food.

Curtailing sales of dietary supplements will not protect the public. It will harm millions of intelligent, responsible people. However, pharmaceutical manufacturers and their distributors will enjoy windfall profits if these FDA propositions are allowed to become law. Whose interests are really being served by this legislation?

Every year the FDA and pharmaceutical industry misappropriate tax dollars to mount another offensive against America's health. Unchecked, eventually these unprincipled forces will prevail. The flood of drugs will continue to rise, destroying more of our parents and children. Congress must permanently stop this ongoing campaign which is subverting the enlightened efforts of Americans who want to improve their lives by reducing their dependence on medical drugs.

Harmful Drug used to Stop Smoking

These are the warnings the FDA are putting on Chantix and they can be very dangerous for anyone’s health. There is no need to continue on this vicious drug cycle and risk your health when there are so many different and natural therapies that have been proven effective to help you quit smoking.

Mono Diets and Arthritis

What is a Mono-diet?   It is the First-and Most Powerful-Principle of Care.

Periodic Mono-dieting is in my opinion the first step to recapture your health and lesson your pain.  It is what started me to get absolute relief after suffering 43 years with arthritis.  Use it in the right way and maintain the level of health you desire.

The greatest benefit is it is simple and easy to do. Anyone who desires to make a life style change can use this method.  It is key to preventing ill health while nurturing vibrant health.

How do you start?  First by understanding that you will not be hungry, you will be satisfied, and it will work if you work it.

There are 3 different ways to do this.

  1. Drinking only fresh fruit and vegetable juice for 1 to 3 days to a week.
  2. Drinking only vegetable juices and fresh fruit juices and eating whole fruits and vegetables for 3 days to a week.
  3. Drinking only fresh fruit and vegetable juices and eating only fresh fruit and vegetables and salads for 1 to 10 days.

Why?

First:   This type of eating allows the body to use the least amount of energy in digesting your food.  This leaves the rest of the body’s energy to cleansing, detoxifying and rejuvenation of the lymph system.

Second:   Because the purpose of this type of eating is to obtain the maximum amount of fuel and nutrients and enzymes from the food you do eat.

Eating raw fruits takes less energy to digest that eating cooked foods.  We are the only species that eats cooked foods and we are the species that lead in degenerative diseases.  And arthritis is one of the main degenerative diseases.  Over 90 Million people in the United States have arthritis.

In 1979 when I went for 43 years of agony to complete relief in less than 3 months 1 in 20 people had arthritis.  Now it is one in three and fast becoming 1 in every two people.  This can be stopped.

To gain the greatest benefit from Mono-dieting, make it part of your routine.  Start with any of the above changes. Make the 3rd one for you to do once in the spring and again in the fall and again in the winter.  In between do it one day a week.

This way of cleansing your body gives your immune system a chance to revitalize its activities.

Mark your calendar.  Mark it “My special time!" because you are doing this for YOU.  If you wake up some day and feel like having just fruit or vegetables raw, then just do it.

You will feel liberated.  The other benefits are you will be helping your body to prevent disease and getting this fantastic surge of energy and well-being as a result.

Take charge of your life.  Who puts the food and drink into your mouth?  It is not some genie or friend or ad.  It is YOU!!!

You will now be taking charge of getting rid of your body wastes and toxins.  These toxins area saved in your body and clumped together.  If you feel these little lumps all over you now know what that is, is JUNK.  This junk is ruining your health and keeping you from living to your fullest.

And guess what? You get to control this.  IF IT IS TO BE, IT IS UP TO ME.

Go from being a slave to food to being a master of food and you will your body will benefit.  You will look younger, feel younger, have more energy and let’s face it.  ENERGY is everything.

Digestion uses a great deal of energy.  This way your body uses less energy to digest the food you eat and more to rebuild your body.

Proteins and starches are very concentrated foods requiring a huge amount of energy output for digestion.  Fruits and vegetables are not concentrated and so require less energy to digest.

Ever have a stomachache?  Or acid reflux? Or acid indigestion?  Or heartburn or gas pains?  Or that heavy, bloated feeling after eating?  You are headed toward many bad diseases if you do.  It is the start of ulcers and colitis which leads to cancer.

Do you want that?  YOU have the power to stop that.  The two biggest selling prescription drugs are Tagamet and Zantac.  Both are for stomach disorders.  This is what gave my husband Warren cancer and ended his life at 72.  He had been taking both for 40 or more years.  His oncologist said these two drugs actually caused his cancer.

Dr. Walford is a medical doctor and did experiments on mice.  A mouse has a life span of about 2 years.  He fed one group whatever mice eat and the control group he fasted them 2 days a week.  What happened?  The control group lived 4 years.

That is the only change he made in their diets. 

There is only one rule in this change in your life.  NOTHING COOKED.

That includes all processed foods.  You eat only raw foods.  That is IT.

The average person eats over 50 pounds of sugar yearly.  It is in such great amounts of food it is mind-boggling.  It is in ketchup.  Check the labels.  If any of these are on it don’t eat it.

In fact write this out and place on your refrigerator.

“If it has a label, do not eat it.  That is the first thing I was taught when I started my journey to freedom from arthritis.

You can add raw nuts but only 10 or 12 nuts a day is enough.

Eat one large salad a day.  Use a salad dressing of olive oil and lemon juice and your favorite herbs and spices.  You can have other types but make sure they have no chemical additives.

Of course, continue with your 20 minutes exercising 3 times a week.  Anything that is enjoyable, preferably outside.

We now know that those who spend that time outside in the yard or the woods or meadows are healthier than those who do their walking or swimming indoors.  This is due to the “green" theory.

There is something about the oxygen when you are around green things that are healthier.  So take that bike ride in the park, or that walk. Or even the beach is okay.  We need fresh air and sunshine.

You have heard about the tiredness you get from long flights?  It is due to many things but mainly that you are breathing the same air over and over in the plane.  

Swimming in an indoor pool is not as healthy as in an outdoor pool.  Walking in the mall is less healthy that walking in the park or where there is grass and trees. It is why farmers and gardeners are usually healthier than inside workers.

Think about this.  We are not talking about expensive things to do.  Just do simple and easy things outside in the fresh air and sunshine.  

You body will thank you, your family will thank you and you will live longer.

I personally do not care how old I am when I die.  I just do not want to wake up each morning feeling tired, sluggish and unhealthy.   I want to feel energetic and alive.  So far at 82, I can and am doing just that.

Here's The real Culprit of High Blood Pressure and How To Lower It Naturally

According to recent estimates, high blood pressure affects one in three U.S. adults. Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to stroke, heart attack, heart failure or kidney failure. What's even more frightening about this condition is that most people don't even know they have it, as there are no symptoms. This is why high blood pressure is often called the "silent killer." Having your blood pressure checked on a regular basis is really the only way to tell if you have high blood pressure.

High blood pressure or hypertension occurs when there is a high pressure or tension of blood flow in the arteries. The arteries transport blood from a pumping heart to the rest of the body. Normal blood pressure is below 120/80. Blood pressure between 120/80 and 139/89 is called "pre-hypertension", and blood pressure of 140/90 or above is considered high blood pressure. The top number is called systolic blood pressure. This number represents the pressure in the arteries as the heart contracts and pumps blood into them. The bottom number is called diastolic pressure, which represents the pressure in the arteries as the heart relaxes following the contraction.

An elevation of either systolic or diastolic blood pressure increases the risk of developing heart disease, kidney disease, hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis or arteriosclerosis), eye damage, and stroke (brain damage).

Many people seem to think that salt or sodium is the primary cause of high blood pressure but truth be told, this has only been shown to be relevant in "salt sensitive" people which is equal to about 10% of the population being affected by the condition.

So what is causing the elevation in the other 90%? Well, mineral deficiencies elevate blood pressure more than anything else. So logically, the first step one should take in an attempt to lower or regulate blood pressure is to prevent deficiencies. The most effective way to do so is by supplementing.

Studies have shown both magnesium and calcium to lower high blood pressure. I recommend taking a combination of 500 mg of calcium and 250 mg of magnesium twice daily.

Since the middle ages, hawthorn berries have been used to support the heart and normalize cardiovascular functions. Taking 250 mg of hawthorn three times daily is another great alternative for lowering high blood pressure because it is rich in bioflavonoids, which relax and dilate the arteries. These compounds contain powerful antioxidants, which help increase the flow of blood and oxygen to the heart. The result is that when it comes to circulating the blood, the heart has less work. This in-turn reduces blood pressure and stress to the heart muscle. The bioflavonoid substances also improve blood flow to other areas of the body and strengthen the walls of blood vessels.

Should You Seek Relief From Your Ailments?

Medicine, I have frequently reminded my readers, is a system of spectacular palliation.  Physicians prescribe and surgeon cut with not the slightest idea of cause in their minds.

If a physician advises an aspirin for a headache, he does it with the idea the he is providing temporary palliation (relief) of a symptom.  And not with any idea that aspirin will have the slightest effect in removing or correcting the cause of the headache.

When a surgeon removes an affected organ, he does not even pretend that this removes the cause of the affection.

He removes Causes, Not Effects

Now it will be readily granted that if the head is removed from one who suffers with chronic headaches, he or she will have no more headaches, but it is not granted that removing the head removes the cause of the headache...

If a toe is cut off there can never be another corn on that toe, but the removal of the toe is not the removal of the cause of corns and there is every likelihood that corns will develop on other toes.

There is no recovery where cause is not removed.

He, who putters with palliatives, treats effects and ignores causes, is a pretender, a charlatan.

The man who cuts out affected parts and organs and permits cause to continue until it destroys the patient is a criminal.  Any fool can take an aspirin for a headache, but it requires intelligence to ferret out the cause of the headache and remove it.

Any person can trim a corn, it requires more intelligence than most people seem to use to get a properly fitting shoe.  The land is overflowing with people who take antacids after every meal, but few try to find and remove the cause of their almost perpetual gastric distress.  How few correct their mode of eating so that they may enjoy gastric comfort.

PAIN is a Messenger To Be Heeded

Drugs and manipulations, heat and cold, electricity and super-sound, prayer and psychological soothing syrups may be a reliever for a time, but there must inevitably come a time when these fail.

What a depressing prospect lies before the sick who devote most of their time to palliating and suppressing their symptoms!  They finally end within the ever-narrowing confines of the vicious circle of symptoms grown to complexity from very simple beginnings.

When a drug is taken to silence pain, (and that is all it can do) we but defy the warnings of nature.  Instead of obeying the admonition that is "pain", we ignore the messenger and pretend that no warning has been given.

To remove an organ and ignore the cause of its impairment is to fly in the face of nature.

There is but one genuine road back to good health and this is a radical about face in the way of life.  If disease is the result of gluttony, there is no restoration of health until the overeating is given up.

If tobacco is the cause of suffering, nothing short of giving up tobacco will enable the body to return to a state of health.

If alcohol is the cause of discomfort, only sobriety will enable the sufferer to evolve into a state of good health.

Whatever the habit or habits responsible for the impairment of health, these must be discontinued and their places taken by constructive habits of life.

A mode of care that seeks merely to palliate or reliever symptoms does not make sense, just as taking the proper liquid supplements for a week or two and expecting to have good health does not make sense.   That is why I recommend my 8 week program. 

You cannot undo bad health that has been building for years in just weeks.  You must make it a major issue in your everyday life.  Do not be the person who continues to do the same thing and who now expects different results.  He or she is fooling themselves.  To get different results you have to start doing different things.  Change some habits.  And in so doing change to Vibrant Health.

Medical "Science" A Fraud Upon Mankind

A woman writes that she developed a stone in one of her kidneys.  The stone was removed.  The wound healed.  She was "Cured".  A few months passed and she developed another stone, in the same kidney.  This time the kidney was removed.

Certainly she was now "cured"!  Her organ had been removed and her stone with it.   How could she ever be sick again!  Was she not now sounder that sound?

Nope. The most approved medical and surgical measures provide only a little temporary palliation.  But a few months passed and she developed a stone in the other kidney.  Now what to do?  Removing the last kidney is speedy death.  Even to remove the stone is to endanger life.  If it is not removed, it may ultimately block the kidney and this kills.

Medical science is at the end of its rope.  Of course now we have dialysis machines and transplants, which though they may prolong life somewhat, succeed only in producing physiological cripples, since they remove no causes of kidney impairment.

Either remove causes of pathology or continue to suffer its effects.

What was wrong with the treatment she received?  It was all wrong.  There was nothing about it that was right.  Like all medical and surgical care it was a removal of EFFECTS: cause was ignored.  Pathological products, in this case, stones, and affected organs were removed instead of cause.

Cause continuing to exist continued to produce effects.  She could have been put on a truly healthy diet and gotten rid of them that way.

It is ever so.  A gallbladder full of stones is removed and more stones form in the liver or in the gall ducts.

A breast is removed because of a tumor and a tumor forms in the other breast.

A cancer is removed and cancer evolves elsewhere.  Recently a young man had a cancer removed from his foot, the leg was amputated.  In a very short time he was dead of cancer of the lungs.

All that was done in his case was to amputate his leg and send him home to the same modes of life and plan of eating that he had pursued before evolving cancer.

Cut and drug and talk learnedly about germs and viruses and ignore the mode of life and its cumulative effects may be good science but it is not good advice.

The medical profession will never learn the necessity to remove cause.  How much longer will it take the much abused and long-suffering public to learn that the first and most essential requisites of the restoration of good health are removal of all causes responsible for its impairment?

As the medical industry has no vested interest in disease and suffering and have nothing to gain by perpetuating it, they should be willing to at least consider a way of life that builds and maintains good health.

This is most important in those who have a dramatic reduction when using statins…"abrupt, major decreases of serum cholesterol from statin drug therapy should be taken more as a warning than as an indication of success, for cognitive side effects seemed more likely to occur in these cases."...

Mention is made of a "recent Prosper trial published in Lancet, that statin therapy increased the incidence of cancer deaths, cancer deaths, completely offsetting the SLIGHT decrease in deaths from cardiovascular disease and further complicating interpretation of reported benefits from statin therapy." Not to mention other significant side effects  of liver/kidney damage, muscle pain/injury, Coenzyme 10 (CQ10) see end of article on getting the best CQ10. Depletion essential for heart health and continued deficiency of heat essential vitamin B's and other nutrients.

There is a cogent discussion between correlation of good diet and diseases. no one, but no one, has ever had a drug deficiency yet our medical system continues to discourage the use of nutrients in lieu of generally toxic drugs! They never even look at the underlying causes, which these drugs sadly mask - much to the detriment of the patient.

Given the benefits of cholesterol lowering borders more on speculation then in fact (mostly from manipulated statistics) mostly from manipulated statistic) it is surprising that there is a need to reduce cholesterol at all. Serious side effects have been reported for Lipitor and other cholesterol-lowering drugs - the so-called statins - prescribed to millions for preventive purposes. Lipitor - Reports of Neuromuscular Degeneration

Numerous adverse side effect reports have implicated Lipitor as a possible cause for severe neuromuscular degeneration. Some people who have been using Lipitor for two years or more report symptoms similar to multiple sclerosis or ALS - Lou Gehrig's Disease - in which they are losing neuromuscular control of their bodies.

For instance, in an article entitled "Life After Lipitor" that appeared in the newspaper Tahoe World on January 27, 2004, Tahoe City (California) resident Doug Peterson began having serious neuromuscular problems after taking Lipitor for two years. He began losing muscular coordination and slurring words when he spoke. Then he lost balance, followed by loss of fine motor skills - he had difficulty writing. He went from doctor to doctor, trying to figure out what could be happening. Finally one doctor suggested that he stop taking Lipitor, and the downward health spiral stopped and his health is now slowly improving.

These adverse effects have begun appearing in peer-reviewed medical journals, and numerous people have reported similar symptoms at public adverse effects.  People have reported "trouble swallowing, trouble talking and enunciating words, feeling fatigued all the time, neck aches," "motor neuropathy which mimics ALS," "Blinding headaches, nausea, vertigo, disorientation, memory loss, extremely dry eyes, pain and stiffness in my neck and calf muscles, abdominal pain," and "Muscle pain, weakness, spasms, buzzing in right leg. Can't hold arms or head up in vertical position for 2 minutes without extreme pain and weakness."

How could Lipitor potentially cause this kind of harm to so many different parts of the body? Lipitor is a "statin" drug, which inhibits the production of cholesterol in order to lower LDL cholesterol counts. By limiting the production of cholesterol, Lipitor may be indirectly causing membrane degeneration in neural and muscle tissue.

The problem is this: cholesterol is essential in your body for many functions. It forms part of what is called the cell membrane - the outer layer of every cell in your body. It helps transport and pack the major components of the cell membrane, called "phospholipids," that are made from essential fatty acids (EFAs). Without sufficient cholesterol we would die, because our tissues are constantly being repaired and replaced with new cells.

Our body produces several thousand milligrams of cholesterol per day to carry out these essential functions, and each day the excess of cholesterol is supposed to be naturally recycled. If your body doesn't have enough new cholesterol each day, you cannot repair and replace your cell membranes and they will eventually degenerate.

The continual recycling of cholesterol happens naturally when you have sufficient ascorbate, another name for vitamin C. Excess cholesterol is naturally converted to bile acid and then excreted. But if you don't consume enough vitamin C (about 2000-3000 milligrams per day for an adult), and it must be liquid, cholesterol builds up in your bloodstream. It is here that doctors make a critical error: instead of telling you to take more vitamin C, they prescribe Lipitor.
If Lipitor and other similar statin drugs are in fact indirectly causing neural and muscular degeneration, this is a very serious matter indeed.

There are twenty million people in the U.S. on Lipitor alone, and probably millions more on other statin drugs (Zocor, Pravachol, Mevacor, Altocor, Lescol, Crestor, etc.). Are they all going to become victims of cell membrane degeneration and nervous system problems? There are few long-term studies that bear out the safety of these drugs, and side effects such as "muscle pain or weakness" are just classified as a reason for some to stop the medication rather than an indication of something very wrong with the drug.

What are Probiotics and Do You Need Them?

Have you had your probiotics today?  You may have and do not even know it.  Probiotics are the small "good" bacteria that help keep the natural balance of organisms in the intestines.  Probiotics has been consumed in Europe for hundreds of years but are just now catching on in the United States as a dietary supplement.  The largest group of probiotic bacteria in the intestine is lactic acid bacteria of which Lactobacillus acidophilus, contained in yogurt, is probably the best known.

Blood Pressure Medicine Can INCREASE Your Risk of DEATH

About half of Americans with high blood pressure are put on drugs.  It's a standard medical practice.  In this case, it's more like standard MAL-practice!

Several studies comparing blood-pressure medication to no treatment at all revealed this shocking truth:

One of these landmark studies is called the Multiple Risk Factor Intervention Trial.  Almost 13,000 men between the ages of 35 and 57 participated and every one was at high risk for heart disease.

Can Proper Nutrition and Supplementation Heal Your Back Pain?

Anyone looking to achieve optimal health has to consider nutrition as the single most important ingredient for success. In a perfect world, all of our nutrition should come from the food we eat. Supplementation should not even be an issue.

In the real world, however, most of the foods we eat are riddled with fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and hormones - not to mention that they are often hydrated with polluted water. In addition, an ever-growing percentage of our food comes from other countries, which don't always have the best inspection track record.

And if all that weren't bad enough, the natural nutrient value of the soil that produces these foods has also been diminishing over the years, a trend that will only continue. This is why it's necessary for us to take a hard look at our diets and make a decision about whether we may need supplements.

As you can see, proper nutrition nowadays is not that easy; it does take some time to educate yourself. By proper nutrition, I mean eating clean and safe foods that have the nutrients your body requires to get and stay healthy.

Recipe for relief

Your two main purposes for eating a healthy diet and taking supplements are to give your body what it needs to heal itself and to minimize the level of inflammation that is in your body. The inflammation is what is causing your pain.

Drugs that fight pain do little, if anything, to help the body heal itself. In fact, some of these drugs can have severe negative side effects, so please consider eating right as an alternative.

If you are suffering from any form of back pain or sciatica, I have a recipe for relief. This is a vary basic look at how foods and supplements can help heal the body.

Water:  Some people believe that we get enough water from our foods and don't need to drink much of it. Others believe that we need to drink 50 to 100 ounces per day - every day. Truth is, your body will tell you what it needs; you just need to know how to listen. Here are some signs that you may need to be drinking more water: constipation, muscle spasm or cramping, and darker urine. If you're taking any medication, or if your blood pressure is not stable - certainly if it's too high - you may not want to drink lots of water.

Protein:  Proteins are the building blocks of our bodies. Without an adequate supply of quality protein, your body will actually steal protein from itself to meet its basic needs. This is a sure way to slow down the healing process. There are probably 10,000 theories on which are the best proteins and how much a person should get each day.

In my opinion, a safe and healthy amount to shoot for is 3 to 7 grams per pound of body weight. For example, a 100-pound person should get 30 to 70 grams of protein per day.

A personal note: I do not eat soy anymore because it has phytoestrogens, which are very bad for the man tool. Phytoestrogens can also cause hormonal imbalances, among a number of other bad things, in some women.

Instead, I eat proteins that come from the top of the food chain. Most chickens peck the ground and eat grains, dirt, and their own excrement. I only eat free-range beef, lamb, and wild salmon.

My favorite protein source is fish - but never farm-raised. Farm-raised fish swim around in their own excrement and are fed man-made pellets fashioned out of who knows what. In fact, farm-raised fish have a higher Inflammation Factor (IF) than chocolate ice cream.

Fat: Fat is a critical component to a healthy diet. The question, of course, is: Which fats should you be eating? As a rule, anything that is hydrogenated or made from corn, cottonseed, or soy is not going to help you at all. This is also true of fats cooked at high temperatures.

I eat fats from fish, beef or lamb. I cook with butter and coconut fat, which I highly recommend. It adds a distinctive sweet flavor and tolerates higher temperatures much better than most oils.

Carbohydrates: Yes, carbs are important. And, no, they don't have to make you fat. You just need to know the difference between simple and complex carbohydrates. Simple carbs break down very quickly and are found in soda, juice, and candy. They are usually go under the names "high fructose corn syrup" or "dextrose." Simple carbs can cause an increase in inflammation. Complex carbs break down much slower and are mainly found in whole grains, legumes, and vegetables. Simple rule of thumb: Anything white - rice, bread, etc. - is not likely to do anything but fill your belly. Fiber: If you are not getting at least 35 grams of fiber a day, which very few people can do on a regular basis, you will need to supplement.

If you don't eat it, supplement it!

That's my rule, and that's why I take all kinds of supplements. If you don't get enough of the nutrients I listed above from the foods you eat, then your only choice is to use supplements to make up the difference. Otherwise, your internal systems will try to steal these nutrients from another part of your body - much the way it does with protein, water, or calcium.

The supplement industry has grown tremendously over the last decade as scientists have learned more about what our bodies require to get healthy and stay healthy. As a result of this research, new compounds have been formulated and more are being found every year. I encourage you to do your own research on each of these products. Meanwhile, here's my quick-start guide:

Mutli-Vitamin/Mineral: I recommend that you take a complete multi-vitamin. Because vitamins and minerals work together, there needs to be synergy between them. For example, calcium needs magnesium, vitamin A needs vitamin B, vitamin B needs C, and so on. They all work together, each doing the job the other cannot; and each supplying the body what the other does not.

Having said that, I believe it is best to take a multi in liquid form because of something called bioavailability. This simply means that the amount of a substance the body can utilize is higher via a liquid than it is by way of a capsule or tablet.

Colon Cleanser:  Since it's so hard to get 35 grams of fiber a day from food, one tablespoon of supplemental fiber daily in juice is the answer. It has been said that if you only poop one time a day, you have up to eight meals left over in your colon. This is not healthy for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the pressure on your spine.

Digestive Enzymes:  Do you ever feel as if you're in a coma after lunch - like your body is working overtime on your meal? A full-spectrum digestive enzyme will help break down your lunch and improve your digestion, making the nutrients in your meal more readily available to your body.

Systemic Enzymes:  Systemic enzymes are different than digestive enzymes. Systemic enzymes work outside the gut and are proteolytic, meaning they break down proteins. They also work on excess fibrin and scar tissue throughout the body, improving blood flow and removing any metabolic wastes, which will minimize inflammation and pain.

Glucosamine and Chondroitin:  These two sulfates are found naturally in the body. Glucosamine comes from amino sugar, and it helps in the formation of cartilage at the joint. Chondroitin is what gives cartilage its elasticity. Both of these have been studied extensively, and they show a great deal of promise. What is important is the dosage, which should be based on your body weight.

Diabetes Drug Danger:  Diabetes Drug Avandia Linked to Heart Trauma

If you are a person suffering from Diabetes, there has been a recent study done by the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences in Toronto providing statistics regarding the side effects of Thiazolidinediones. This class of Diabetes drug has been linked to congestive heart failure and even the possibility of heart attacks.

A team of doctors from the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences in Toronto analyzed cause and effect on over 159,000 older adults who have been and are currently taking this class of Diabetes drugs. These adults were analyzed from 2002 through to 2005 and entered in an Ontario Health Care Database to record their findings. The statistics of this study included a period of 3.8 year follow-up cycle with each adult and their findings were astonishing. During this follow-up period, 7.9% were hospitalized for congestive heart failure, 7.9% were hospitalized for heart attack and an overwhelming 19% died.

This study has proved that taking Thiazolidinediones increases the risk of congestive heart failure, heart attack and death by 60%, 40% and 29%. These statistics are not acceptable for any person living with Diabetes. With further research it was revealed that risks were segregated to patients using Avandia, also known as Rosiglitazone. Although it is important more studies continue to analyze these drugs and their deadly effects on Diabetes patients, this report is alarming in itself.

When you are faced to deal with a disease such as Diabetes, it is important to remember that prescription drugs and Western Medicine are not the only options you have to control and live with Diabetes. Millions of people today are turning to the natural side of healing when it comes to their Diabetes and they are finding the natural results not only work but provide zero side effects. No matter what type of Diabetes you are currently battling there is a natural herb or supplement to help maintain and control it.

The Importance of Enzymes

Even vitamins, minerals, and hormones cannot do their jobs without enzymes. They are the catalysts, the dynamic power that gives us our ability to function at the highest level of good health.

Our bodies cannot exist without enzymes.

I will be talking about digestive plant enzymes. For proper digestion to happen, 4 major enzymes are required.

Amylase

Amylase aids the digestion of carbohydrates and starches. (Fruit, vegetables, pasta, and bread)

Protease

Protease enzymes digest proteins (red meats, fowl, fish, and nuts. If improperly digested, protein putrefies in the system, causing indigestion and toxicity.

Lipase

Lipase breaks down fats and assists in balancing fatty acids. Fats not thoroughly digested turn rancid and create pungent odors and poor cholesterol balance.

Cellulase

Cellulase breaks down cellulose (the fiber found in vegetables and other plant materials) however; the body does not produce cellulase. Undigested fiber leaves a wax like residue in the small intestine and adds to absorption ills.

Enzymes are destroyed by the heat produced when we boil, microwave, or pressure cook food. When the temperature rises above 118 degrees Fahrenheit while steaming, even that process can destroy enzymes.

80% of our body's energy is used by the digestive process. If you run down, are under stress, living in a very hot or very cold climate, pregnant, or a frequent air traveler, enormous quantities of extra enzymes are required by your body.

You must supplement your enzymes. The medical profession tells us that all disease is due to a lack or imbalance of enzymes.

Our very lives depend on enzymes particularly when you have any sort of inflammation in your body.

Research has known for years that enzymes are effective in aiding the body to properly use the nutrients provided in food and other supplements.

This is particularly helpful with regard to proper digestion. Equally as important, but not nearly as well know, is the fact that enzymes play a critical role in promoting healthy joints and a healthy response to body inflammation such as all forms of the over 100 types of arthritis.

Research shows that, in addition to other factors, joint pain stems from undigested proteins and fats which form uric acid crystals that get "caught" in joints.

Enzymes stimulate the healthy production of cytokines that stop inflammation. They also aid the body in cleaning up undigested food, debris, swollen joints and tissues.

By helping keep the body free from inflammation, natural healing and normal joint health can be achieved.

A body of physical labor can really take it toll on a body. Any of the NAIDS harm the body. Joint challenges that drugs can cover up, can be aided with the proper enzymes.

TRILLIONS of cells work constantly to maintain an acceptable balance of enzymes to keep the body working. Then something happens…could be a virus, strenuous exercise, an emotional crisis, breathing unclean air, staging a temper tantrum or eating a fat-laden meal.

Then the balance of enzymes is depleted. The solution is to make a daily intake of enzymes.

Plant enzymes in liquid form will save your digestive process, fortify your tissues, and fuel the metabolic enzyme activity that keeps you alive and functional.

Unfortunately seating some raw fruits and vegetables will not provide an adequate amount as they only contain enough enzymes to digest their own particles.

Does the body really need to have its immune system strengthened or rebuilt? Absolutely and done as soon as possible.

First steps to take would be to avoid food and water containing agricultural chemicals, as well as limit sugar which stress our pancreas, kidneys and liver.

We can add regular exercise… three times a week… for at least 20 to 30 minutes. And make sure you only think positive thoughts.

Everyone can improve their health by getting the proper enzymes.

Relief For Arthritis Sufferers
Three things you can do that will help relieve your arthritis.

Mental attitude, diet and physical activity, separate or combined, have a effect on your body.

These three aspects of your life work together and will either continue to make you sick or will help you to become and stay well.  This is particularly true for people that suffer from arthritis.

Mental Attitude

Take a look at your mental attitude.... What has positive and negative affects on your attitude?  You will make a great difference in the way you feel mentally and physically by enhancing the positive and removing the negative influences in your life.

Every thought you have your body will react to that thought.

Positive thoughts and feelings will create positive results, while negative thoughts and feeling will create negative results.

So if you are a calm and positive person your health will be better than a person who is anxious and negative.

To make yourself more serene, stand tall, throw your shoulders back, lift up your head and smile. Try it.  Don't you feel better?

Now stand up and look down, slump your shoulders and frown. Now how do you feel? Did you feel the difference?

Here is an example of what I am talking about.

When I was 16 my bedroom was on the third floor on a semi-busy street. One afternoon my girl friend and I were leaning out the window watching people as they walked by.

Down the street came a man in his 20's, who we thought looked older… Dragging himself along. His shoulders drooped. He shuffled his feet and his clothes just hung on him.

We both gave a "wolf whistle" and the man looked all around not knowing where the whistle came from.  He then straightened up, put his shoulders back, and strutted down the street whistling.

It made a lasting impression on me because he felt a positive feeling which caused a positive effect.

Just think back to your childhood.  When you were praised how did you look and feel? When you were scolded how did you look and feel?

When your body is tense, you feel unhappy or have negative thoughts your body will react and your arthritis will hurt more than when you are calm, happy and have positive thoughts.

Be aware of your mental attitude and note how different situations have an effect your arthritis. Then you can take charge and change the affects they have on your arthritis. Out with the Bad and in with the Good!!!

You are not responsible for what others do or say, you are only responsible for how you react to what others do or say.

Diet

When you have arthritis it is more important that your diet is made up of 75% raw and 25% cooked foods.

Eating raw fruits takes less energy to digest than eating cooked foods therefore taking less energy to clean out the toxic waste in your body. The less toxic waste you have in your body the less your arthritis will hurt.

We are the only species that eats cooked foods and we are the only species that suffer with so many degenerative diseases.

Arthritis is one of the main degenerative diseases. Over 90 Million people in the United States have arthritis.

Physical Activity - relieves the pain of arthritis

If you have arthritis you know how hard it is to get up after sitting for any period of time. You're so toxic and tense that you hurt to move.

Try some simple exercises in your chair.

1. Swing your arms around in circles.
2. Lift up one leg at a time.
3. Turn your body as far to the right as you can and then to the left.
4. While sitting tighten your buttocks and lift your body up from the chair. You won't lift it far if at all but you will feel the body lift.

Start with just doing these simple exercises three or four times each for a few minutes and working yourself up to 10 times three or four times a day. If you like to walk start slow. If it is only 10 feet, walk 10 feet.  Everyday increase it another 5 feet.

You will be amazed how better you will feel.

Swimming or exercising in water is marvelous.  In the water your body is weightless. You do not have to swim you can just walk back and forth or do the above exercises. Try doing this at least 20 minutes three times a week.

The trick to exercising and staying with it is to do something you enjoy and with a friend or a group when possible.

My daughter Susan and I meet at the pool where I live 3 times a week for 20 minutes to half hour. It is fun, we get to chat and we do our exercises. It is better than meeting in a restaurant and sitting and eating bad foods.

Always ask your doctor before starting an exercise program of any kind.

You are the only one that can change your life.   Do you want to shuffle along or do you want to strut along whistling?  The choice is yours.
